Rush Concert 9/9/07

I met up with Jolynn (and Jeff) at the Rush concert last night. At least I PAID for my tickets. She didn't sound as interested in attending. Me? I'm still just as big a fan as I was in 1985 when Dirk Doble and I went to the Power Windows tour (at the old Civic Center?).

street dance update

It was fun to see everyone at the reunion! Hopefully at the 25th we can get more people to come. Thanks again Kristi for all your work. I heard Michelle Onasch Ashley is planning the 25th.

Tricia Johnson came to the street dance. She looks the same. She lives in Nebraska and I believe she said she had 4 children. She was unable to make it to any of the other events for the reunion. Tim Johnson was also at the street dance. He has been married for a little over a year, has a 1 year old, and lives in Rosemount. Others that I saw were Carin, Steph and Jen, Jon Parrish, Dawn Norberg, Michelle Ashley, Kelly Mohn, Brenda Stenberg and Jolynn Kruse. I heard Tony Ehrnriter came but I did not seem him and I saw Kathy Slipka from a distance and Karene Kreft was bartending. I'm sure there were more but there were so many people and many that were much younger than us.

On the reunion

For those out of state, I thought I would give a quick update on the reunion this past weekend (before I forget...professors tend to be a bit absent-minded).

Kristi (who apparently has never needed to dye her hair) would know the exact numbers, but I would say about 35 or so of us (from the class) were on the boat cruise Friday night and about 15 or so of us were at the picnic on Saturday. I didn't go to the street dance Saturday night but it sounded like a few people were going to that as well. Maybe someone can comment on that. [Note: I don't dye my hair yet either Kristi.]

There weren't any real surprises from my point of view. I had a bit of difficult time recognizing some folks (like Charlie Johnson, Jon Parrish, and Leah) but that can be expected. Others, like Wade, Gene, and Dwayne, were pretty easy to pick out.

If I remember right, Dianne Beltz Carraway (and Todd) joined us from Seattle, Amy Spyhalla Elmer from Chicago, and Kristi from North Carolina. All others were from MN, many pretty local.

I didn't take any photos (too busy talking I guess), but it would be great if someone would post a few. We took a sort of group photo at a Taylors Falls bar in the dark. That ought to turn out well...

At the picnic, many people brought kids. I thought it was neat to see Dan Linkert and Brenda (Crow) Linkert's kids. They look more like Brenda, but still a cool human experiment. Todd Rockensock, Terry Opine, and Gene Fisk showed up at the picnic on Saturday (but didn't make the boat on Friday night). Yes, Terry Opine. He has not changed much and has a family. He says he does taxes and teaches chess (yes, that's right) at Twin City schools. He scares me a bit (and he knows it). Todd is a finish carpenter and has a family. I have little doubt that Gene is enjoying life.

I got to talk with almost everyone for a little bit at least on the boat Friday night. They were all pretty nice to me, but their recollections of me didn't really match what I remember about myself. Jolynn (Kruse) mentioned that Lori (Carr) lives near St. Cloud. Maybe someone can send me her contact info. I'd like to drop by sometime.

Wow 20 years!

Hello Classmates from 20 years ago,

Thanks Dale for putting this blog together. It will be fun to see those classmates who are able to come to the reunion in June. Thanks Kristi for making the reunion happen. I actually live only a few miles from Taylors Falls, MN, the site of the reunion. I graduated from St. John's in '91 and have been working for Ferrellgas (propane) in Eastern MN and Western WI for almost 15 years. My wife Sarah and I have been married for 11 years now and we have 4 beautiful daughters; Alise, Julia, Anna and Olivia. We built a home in the country where we have been living for the past 5 years in Lindstrom, MN. I sure don't feel 38 but the gray hair that is beginning to emerge says other wise.
I hope everyone from the class of '87 is doing well and I am looking forward to the reunion.

Hi Everyone

It just doesn't seem like 20 years have passed. Time flies when your having fun. After 8 years traveling the world with the Air Force, I moved back to Minnesota and am currently living in Eden Prairie. I've been married to an incredible girl from Duluth, Sheri, for 10 years. Currently I work in IT at the National Marrow Donor Program in Minneapolis helping keep the National Bone Marrow Donor Registry up and running. It keeps my busy. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone in June.

Also, I heard from Kristi Johnson. She would like to have some kind of memento for the reunion. Some of the ideas are glasses, mugs, coffee cups, a deck of cards with NBHS Class of -87. Something that is inexpensive but a memory of the event. Does anyone have any contacts with a business that would be able to do this? If you do, I can be contacted at sexsonb@aol.com or bsexson@nmdp.org.

Memories

Hello everyone - Carin (Peterson) Anderson. No surprise, married Brent Anderson and we've been married for 15 plus years, have two small boys (Eli 4.5, Owen 18 mos.). We now live in Hugo. Hugo - who lives there? Actually we are in same neighborhood as Barbara White. For the past 10 years I've worked for the Minnesota Wild and Xcel Energy Center and am the only one who has an email address of "wild.com"! I stay in close touch with Stephanie (Scholz) Edoff and Jen (Ward) Seifriz, Michelle (Onasch) Ashley and Nancy Kerr. And yes Steph and Jen are as goofy as they were in HS! Its exciting to hear everyone's updates and I look forward to the Reunion. We went to Brent's 20 year a couple years ago and it was a blast. Everone's guard is down and folks are happy with the lives they've chosen.

Hello from Michelle Olsen Zak

Hi Everyone,
Well, Tracy Ramberg Kress summed it up. Yes, we all three (Brian Swanson included) live in the same development in North Branch. I married Trent Zak (89') and have been married for 11 1/2 years. We have two daughters, Ciara 7 and Eden 6. Swore I'd never move back to North Branch but 4 years ago we made the leap (only from White Bear Lake). Daughter Eden happens to be in love with Brian Swanson's son Brendan. Daughter Ciara's best friend happens to be Dan Linkert's and Brenda Crow's daughter Savannah. Who would have thought?

Anyways, I have worked in the medical industry for the past 16 years and currently work for Medtronic as a Physician Education Program Manager educating electrophysiologists. Keeps me busy! Glad to hear from everyone. We'll be in Disney World during the Reunion weekend, hope everyone has fun!

Remembering. . . .

OK, I don't know if it's the fact that it's been 20 years (!!!!!) or that I had brain surgery in December, but I find that it's hard to remember which names go with which faces (Dale, of course, is always memorable). It's so interesting to meet all these "new" people with much in common.

xoxo Kris
